A fourth legendary Côte-Rôtie joins Maison Guigal’s celebrated collection. The new La La La has arrived.
The fourth of Guigal’s legendary LaLa wines
For decades, the names La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne have represented some of the finest and most sought-after expressions of Côte-Rôtie. Collectively known among wine enthusiasts as Guigal’s legendary “La La La” wines, these exceptional cuvées have become icons of the Rhône Valley.
Now, for the first time, a fourth name joins this remarkable family. E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Reynarde officially becomes the fourth of the Maison’s celebrated LaLa wines.
Three generations devoted to the Rhône
Founded in Ampuis in 1946, Maison Guigal has become one of the defining names of the Rhône Valley. Its reputation has been built through generations of family knowledge, exacting vineyard work and an uncompromising pursuit of quality.
Marcel Guigal and his son Philippe continue this family story, preserving the Maison’s heritage while revealing the individual character of its most exceptional terroirs. La Reynarde represents a new chapter in that history.
Between Côte Blonde and Côte Brune
La Reynarde takes its name from the Reynard stream, which historically separates Côte Blonde from Côte Brune within the Côte-Rôtie appellation. This location is central to the wine’s identity.
Just as the stream lies between these two renowned sectors, La Reynarde expresses a compelling balance between elegance and power. It is a significant new chapter for Maison Guigal and one of the most important new releases from Côte-Rôtie in recent years.
Born on the dramatic slopes of Côte-Rôtie
Côte-Rôtie is one of the northern Rhône Valley’s most prestigious appellations. Its vineyards rise dramatically above the Rhône on exceptionally steep, narrow terraces that have been cultivated since Roman times.
La Reynarde is produced entirely from Syrah, harvested as whole bunches. The vines grow on mica-schist soils that have weathered into clay rich in iron oxides, contributing to the structure, concentration and distinctive character of the wine.
The vineyard’s sunny exposure produces a Côte-Rôtie of impressive richness while retaining the refinement expected from one of Guigal’s most important wines.
Precision in the vineyard and cellar
La Reynarde is created with the uncompromising attention associated with Maison Guigal’s most prestigious wines. Fermentation takes place under carefully controlled temperatures, accompanied by automatic punching down and a long maceration lasting approximately four weeks.
The wine is then matured for 40 months in new oak barrels. This extended ageing allows its concentration, structure and complex aromas to develop while giving the wine the foundations required for a long evolution in the cellar.
Tasting La Reynarde
La Reynarde displays a deep ruby-red colour with very dark reflections. The nose is intense and expressive, led by liquorice and complemented by notes of ripe fruit.
On the palate, it is powerful, rich and structured, with firm tannins and impressive concentration. Its defining quality is its balance. La Reynarde combines the elegance associated with Côte Blonde and the strength traditionally connected with Côte Brune, creating a distinctive new expression of Côte-Rôtie.
This is a serious wine with excellent ageing potential. Under appropriate cellar conditions, it may continue developing for approximately 30 years.
Serving and food pairing
La Reynarde is best served between 16°C and 18°C. Younger bottles will benefit from decanting, allowing the wine’s aromas and structure to unfold gradually.
Its depth and character make it an excellent partner for:
- Roasted or grilled red meat
- Beef fillet
- Lamb
- Venison and other game
- Slow-cooked meat dishes
- Mature hard cheeses
