Petrus’ terroir is indeed made of very fine and swelling black and blue clay called “montmorillonite” that creates an area of low atmospheric pressure; this type of soil absorbs and restore water drop by drop to the vine.

Description

Grape: 100% Merlot

Petrus is a monovarietal Merlot red wine. It belongs to the AOC Pomerol, in Bordeaux, France.

The vineyard’s soils are different from the soils of those that surround it, they are clayey and with a layer of gravels, whereas in the rest of Pomerol they are sandy, and they possess perfect qualities for cultivating Merlot.

Winemaking

Once in the cellar, the Petrus harvest is fermented in cement vats at a controlled temperature to preserve and extract the fresh and fruity aromas of the grape. Once fermented, the wine is aged for 22 to 28 months in new French oak barrels.
