Magari is an Italian expression having different meanings “If only it was true…!”, “Maybe…”. It carries a sort of irony which leads people to smile, without showing off the great commitment and determination associated to the Ca’Marcanda project.
Glowing and intense colour. Polished, refined, focused and expressive, with notes of eucalyptus, pepper and pine. A typical notes of the local Mediterranean bushes and berries rise from the glass.

It was the beginning of the new millennium and Angelo Gaja was busy making the first vintage at the family’s latest acquisition in Bolgheri; Ca’ Marcanda. Meaning ‘house of endless negotiations’ in Gaja’s Piedmontese dialect, the estate’s name is a reflection of the endless rounds of talks with the owners required to finalise the purchase of the property, which finally went through in 1996 – two years after the acquisition of the Pieve Santa Restituta estate in Montalcino.
Vineyards
The vineyard blocks that make up this blend are further away from the nearby sea, closer to the fertile hillside. The loamy, clay-rich soils here are known as terre brune (dark brown earth), is key in creating round
Winemaking
The three varieties ferment and macerate separately for around 15 days. After 12 months of ageing in oak, they are blended and then aged for several months in the bottle before release.
